Backing up space development projects gas sensors Technology

New Cosmos Electric and Space Development Business

We have been involved in the development of gas sensors and gas alarm for the space development industry in various forms since the early 2000s. A variety of products using gas sensor technology have supported space development industry, including toxic gas sensors to ensure the safety of astronauts in manned spacecraft, gas alarm to ensure safety during spacecraft launch, and gas sensors sensor to prevent explosions of hydrogen used as fuel.

A hydrogen sensor that can be used in a vacuum
Developed in collaboration with JAXA

Spacecraft use liquid hydrogen as fuel, and it is necessary to detect any hydrogen leaks that may occur. However, since conventional hydrogen sensor use an oxidation-reduction reaction to detect hydrogen, they have the problem of being unable to be used in places without oxygen. Therefore, we worked with JAXA to improve the sensor element and develop a hydrogen sensor that can detect hydrogen even in a high vacuum by observing the change in resistance of the element due to hydrogen adsorption.
